Manuscript titled: "The History of Rollstone Congregational Church To 1927" as written by Ralph K. Hubbard, Church Historian, 1958. The history starts with the year 1867 when discussions were being held within the Calvinistic Congregational Church to start a new Church on lower Main St. as that area of Fitchburg was experiencing a housing boom and the CC Church was mostly full. Rev. Alfred Emerson and Deacon David Boutelle led the meetings that helped start the new Rollstone Congregational Church at the corner of Main and Snow Streets. The cornerstone of the new Church was laid on Oct. 5, 1868. Fitchburg Architect H.M. Francis was chosen as architect of the new church and the type of church was to be Gothic. It is English Gothic. The service of organization of Rollstone Congregational Church and the Installation of the first Pastor, Rev. Leverett W. Spring was held on April 18, 1868. The manuscript is 8 pages on 8.5" x 11" paper and is secured in a matte binder cover. |
