  9. A book of Fitchburg Town Reports, 1842 - 1873. This timespan represents the last years of Fitchburg as a Town before it became a City in 1872. The book is a bound copy of each of the annual town reports starting in 1842 and ending in 1873. The first report is listed as: "Expenditures of the Town of Fitchburg, for the year ending March 2, 1842." The first entry is the amounts paid to a list of men: "For removing Snow from the Highway in the winter of 1839 and 1840." The report is 7 pages and is signed by Selectmen Abel Thurston, Josiah Sheldon, and Sam'l A. Wheeler. The Town Report dated from March 31, 1859 noted the printer of the report as: "Fitchburg: Printed by E. & J.F.D. Garfield, 1859." The last report is listed as: "Town of Fitchburg. Reports of the Selectman, Fire and Police Departments, Overseers of The Poor, Board of Auditors, and Water Commissioners, Ending Jan. 6th, 1873." The printing company is noted as: "Fitchburg: Reveille Steam Printing Works. 1873." The first page of this report notes: Report of the Board of Selectmen. The undersigned beg leave to submit the following Report of the Receipts and Expenditures of the Town, from March 1st, 1872 , to January 6th, 1873, the date of the Inauguration of the City Government. A handwritten note inside the front cover: "For the Historical Society, T.N. Garfield." Theresa Newton Garfield was the daughter of James F.D. Garfield who started the Fitchburg Historical Society in 1892. The book is in very good condition, and is 5.5" x 8.5" in a black cover with gold color text on the binding edge. - Book
