Copy of a photo taken by Ray (Joe) Andrews of Dale K. Cousins holding WWI award given to his father, Private Leslie E. Cousins, 120th Massachusetts Unit, wounded in action in France 1919, buried alive by bomb and mustard gassed, found by French soldier, carried to U.S. Hospital and left there. Leslie Cousins looked for French Soldier to thank him after he recovered, but could not find him. Returned home to Fitchburg, Mass. where he married Elsie L. Smith of Harrison Ave. They had 2 children, Marion Cousins, 1921, and Dale K. Cousins, 1937. The award was signed by Woodrow Wilson, Presiudent of the U.S.A. |
