Ivory colored commemorative plate with scalloped edge decorated with gold. In the center is a drawing of Saima Hall in blue and the wording below: Saima Hall Fitchburg, Massachusetts 1906-1957. On the reverse: "Finnish Labor Society, Saima, founded in 1894, built Saima Hall, laying the cornerstone in 1906 over a steel box of memorabilia. Original art work and paneling destroyed by fire of 1917. The scene of innumerable activities, including meetings, dramatics, notable speeches, band, orchestra, chorus, gymnastics, basketball, wrestling, children's activities, weddings, and funerals, dancing, programs and parties. These cultural and spiritual activities have become the heritage of Finnish-Americans everywhere. Sold April 15, 1957." |
